Wilma was born on July 9, 1927 and grew up in the city of Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania with her older brother Fred, younger sister Helen and her parents Fred and Eva Zimmerman. She graduated from Peabody High School.
During and after high school she worked at the Equitable Life Assurance Society doing general office work in the Leads department to help her family make ends meet. She met Winston, the love of her life and future husband, on a streetcar in the early hours of New Year’s Day, 1947. They raised their family in the Pittsburgh, PA area and were married for almost 70 years prior to Winston’s death in 2017. During retirement he and Wilma moved to Georgetown, Texas.
Wilma was homemaker while her children were growing up. She especially enjoyed cooking, sewing, and painting. Wilma was an outstanding painter and loved to paint with watercolors. Her subjects were primarily Pennsylvania landscapes and stills. She would sew many of her own clothes along with those for her daughter that included a matching outfit for Barbara’s favorite doll.
She was an active member of the Murrysville (PA) Women’s Club for many years, including a term as president of the club. She was very involved in both the social and charitable activities of the organization.
Wilma is survived by her daughter Barbara Truskoski (Ben) of Austin, Texas; her son, Ronald Spencer (Kathy) of Southlake, Texas, her grandsons Michael Truskoski (Hanna) and Kyle Spencer, and her great granddaughter Charlotte Truskoski.
The family would like to thank her many Visiting Angels that helped her remain in her home for the past 4 years, especially her “regulars” over the past year: Aurora, Raquel, Gwen, and Vivian. We would also like to thank her dear friend Elaine for the many hours of shared conversations and delicious treats.
Funeral services will be held at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen Texas on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to: Murrysville Women’s Club, PO Box 346, Murrysville, PA 15668
