OBITUARY
Jill Lowery
October 13, 1949 – November 21, 2020
Jill Pierce Lowery, a lifelong resident of McKenzie, AL, passed into eternal life on Saturday, November 21, 2020, after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. She and her husband, Billy, have been a staple in the town of McKenzie for over 50 years. Together they owned and operated the local hardware store since 1974 after returning from military duty in Germany. Mrs. Jill had a love for people, an infectious smile and crystal blue eyes that lit up any room she entered. Together they raised two daughters, Billie Lynn and Jessica, and welcomed five grandchildren and two wonderful sons-in-law. Through their business, they were able to help so many in the community that were less fortunate and needed a helping hand to get started. It didn’t matter the project, they were there to help.
It would be wrong to say that Mrs. Jill lost her battle because not once did she ever stop fighting nor complained. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined and never missed a day’s work due to sickness until this past year. Through her, we saw what resilience and perseverance truly looked like. She loved her family, her flowers, and making timeless keepsakes such as blankets and cross-stitched pictures.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Ava Pierce, and two brothers, Alvin "Cleo" Pierce and Doug Pierce.
She is survived by her husband, Billy C. Lowery of McKenzie, daughter and son-in-law, Billie Lynn Lowery Douglas and Billy Douglas of Pleasant Home, AL, daughter and son-in-law, Jessica Lowery Jones and Matthew Jones of Snowdoun, AL; grandchildren, Brayton, Brenden, and Briley Douglas of Pleasant Home, AL, and Ty and Cole Jones of Snowdoun, AL; brother and sister-in-law, Manning and Val Pierce of Millbrook, AL, sister, Evelyn Sellers of Montgomery, AL, twin brother, Jack Pierce of Greenville, AL, sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Steve Inabinet of Opelika, AL, sister-in-law, Sandra Pierce of Wilmer, AL, and sister-in-law, Liz Pierce of McKenzie, AL. Sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda and Robert Kelley of Georgiana, AL, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lester and Cindy Lowery of Georgiana, AL, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ricky and Kay Godwin of Georgiana, AL. Jill was "Aunt Jill" to dozens of nieces and nephews, many of whom she taught to swim in her family pool.

I am so sad to hear of the loss of an Angel walking this earth. Jill and her husband was so good to our parents. Jill was such a sweet and thoughtful person with a smile that would light up a room. Jill and I were good friends going through school and she always wanted to see me when I would go back home. We have lost a loving soul but God has gained an Angel. We will see each other again Jill. My condolences to her entire family

One of the nicest , sweetest friend and classmate a person could have. I met Jill and twin brother Jack in the first grade. She was such a quiet and steady person , a person that I can not remember anyone ever having a big difference\problem with. When I would make it home for visits I would drop by her store and "catch up" on our local friends and classmates. I offer my condolences to her husband, family and to my friend Jack. I know she will be missed by you and the community. God's blessings to all her loved ones and friends there. Darrell Watson

Aunt Jill,
A name and shoes no one will ever be able to fill. I look back on so many memories and you’re in them. I’m so thankful for our last conversation Wednesday. I will forever hold it and your love in my heart. God is still good and we are trusting him.

Jill was such a beautiful woman. Not only was she extremely attractive and handsome, but she had a sweetness and compassion that shined through her deeds and beautiful blue eyes. She was also very strong and brave. The way she handled her illness was an inspiration. It was an honor to know her and her family. My prayers and thoughts are with her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, and friends.

Jill became my friend when I was 5 years old and I am almost 69 years old now. She was the very first friend I ever had. We use to catch lightning bugs in a jar at night. Jack and Daniel would catch horse flies and put straws in their tails. We all played all the kids games that young children played and had a great time. When we moved she wrote a letter for her and Jack telling how much they missed us. I still have the letter. Jill was not a sometime friend she was an all the time friend. I will always miss my dear friend!

So many memories growing up spending summers at her house. Picking peas and shelling them while watching the soaps. Walking up and down the road from their house to grandad's house. Always had a smile and just all-around beautiful, inside and out. Will miss you but will always have the memories. Rest in peace.
