Betty Lou Ott

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 10:30 am at Gering Zion Church with Pastor Tim Hebbert officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering.

A memorial has been established to the Gering Zion Church. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.geringchapel.com. Gering Memorial Chapel is in charge of services.

Betty was born on May 3, 1939, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Henry and Mary (Meier) Stobel. She received her early education in Lyman, Nebraska and Lake Alice, Minatare, Nebraska. She graduated with the class of 1956 from Scottsbluff High School.

She married Richard Ott on March 23, 1958, in Gering, Nebraska and made their home in Minatare for a year, moving to Gering where she resided.

Throughout her life, Betty found many ways to serve her family, church, and community. She worked alongside her husband, Richard, on the farm throughout their married life. A woman of strong faith, she was a longtime member of Gering Zion Church, where she served as an organist for many years, helped with the AWANA programs, and was a member of the Ladies Friendship Circle. She also led two women’s Bible study groups and served on the election board on Election Day. Most importantly, Betty was a devoted caregiver to her mother, her husband, and her son during their final days. Her life was a beautiful example of faith, service, and selfless love for her family and others.

Survivors include her daughter Sheri (Rod) Ferguson; grandchildren Joshua Ferguson, Jordan (Cameron) Crump, and Aaron Ott; great grandchildren Laney and Briggston Ferguson, Ezekiel Crump and Aliyah Ott; sisters Janice Meisner, Luci Weitzel, Kathi (Gary) Tuck and Pam (Bob) Winters and brothers Gary (Cora) Stobel, Alvin (Diana) Stobel, Marvin Stobel and Stan (Deb) Stobel and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Mary Stobel, brother Jim Stobel, husband Richard Ott and son Mark Ott.
