Clarence Maupin

Funeral services for Clarence Maupin, age 93 of Scottsbluff, who passed into glory August 29, 2026, in Gering, Nebraska will be held at Central Church of Christ, 1245 Five Rocks Road (Gering) on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 10:00a.m., Lyle Hinebauch officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, from 4-7 pm at Gering Memorial Chapel.

Clarence was born on January 15, 1933, on the family farm of Robert P. Maupin and Mary M. Maupin (Dolan) in the southwest corner of Perkins County, Nebraska. Clarence attended school in Grainton, NE through High School where he graduated in 1950. He worked for various farmers in several locations until in June 1953 when he entered the military. Construction engineering was his specialty and he was honorably discharged in May of 1955. That fall, he started a custom farming business and the work progressed into farming, feeding and ranching.

On January 2, 1957, he met Alyce Mae Withrow (Deceased Jan 19, 2019) and after nearly two years of dating they were married on December 7, 1958. Together they had four sons; Daniel Dolan Maupin (Corvallis, OR), Edwin Paul “Chip” Maupin (Brule, NE), Matthew Mitchell Maupin (deceased) and Robert Phillip Maupin (Euless, TX). They farmed and made their home in Gering Valley and later purchased a farm and moved to the Morrill-Henry area. At the age of 62, he retired from farming and moved to a home on County Road 19 near Scottsbluff where he started building horse fences and various custom equipment and construction projects.

He greatly enjoyed working on his property and in his shop, especially his lifetime enjoyment of welding creating many metal projects that were donated to fundraising events at the church or the Farm and Ranch Museum. Throughout his life, he served on several boards including the school boards of Dome Rock, Cedar Canyon and Henry schools. He served for more than 40 years as an Elder of Central Church of Christ (serving as the chair of the building committee) and was a trustee of Platte Valley Bible College for more than 20 years. He also served as a trustee for Asia Pacific International, a mission in Indonesia for 10 years. Volunteering at the Legacy of the Plains museum was a favorite pastime, and he enjoyed helping out neighbors whenever possible.

Clarence was known for his love of Jesus and his family and friends, hard work, and the ability to fix almost anything, a sense of humor and memorable easy laugh.

He was preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life, Alyce, his son Matthew, siblings Roberta Norton, Dorothy (Morris) Myers, Maxine (Harden) Young, Bob (Betty) Maupin, mother-in-law Ilda Withrow and in-law Russell (Ann) Withrow.

He is survived by his sons Daniel (Leah), Chip (Cheri) and Rob (Shannon) as well as 11 grandchildren. Mitchell (Ahriel), Philip, Haley, Lucas, Heidi, Matthew (Katie), Rachel, Nathan (Allie), Hannah, Garrett (Rachel Joy), Kate and 2 great-grandchildren, Riggin and Magnolia; brothers and sister Isabelle Kinney, Wayne (Diana) Maupin and Wendell (Betty) Maupin and numerous nieces and nephews.
