Harold R O'Neal

Harold Richard “Dick” O’Neal passed away June 11, 2022 in his sleep. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 11am at Harvest Valley Church with Pastor Curt Holzworth officiating. A graveside burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery at 2pm with military honors provided by the Army National Guard and American Legion. He was born October 18, 1922 at Yockey, Nebraska to Roy and Freida (Corbett) O’Neal. He graduated from Bayard High School in 1940 and attended Hastings College until 1943. He then enlisted in the army and served in WWII.

He married Helen Brown in 1947 while attending Hastings College and graduated in 1948.

In 1964, Helen died of cancer, and Dick later married Dorothy Roland in 1976.

He taught at Valentine, Kimball, Holdrege, and finally at Scottsbluff High School. During those times, he was a coach, teacher, counselor, and principal. While in Kimball, he attended summer school at the University of Wyoming and obtained a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. He retired from the Scottsbluff Public School system after 23 years in 1987.

He enjoyed family, friends, football, woodworking, and his 1967 Chevy SS 396.

He is survived by his sons, Mark (Rebecca) O’Neal and Tracy (Pam) O’Neal; his sister, Marilyn Wimmer; step-children, Rod (Reva) Roland, Gene (Sharon) Roland, and Denise (Roland) Fertig; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Helen and Dorothy; and his two brothers, Don and Robert.
