

Lon was born July 29, 1950 to Lew and Audre (Burbach) Asselin in Scottsbluff. June 7, 1969 Lon married Laura Berger. They had two daughters. Angie (JR) Brester and Jill Asselin both of Gering.
Lon attended Gering High School and worked for Lockwoods, Modern Plumbing in Gering and last summer retired from Snell Services where he proudly worked as a Master Plumber for almost 40 years. Lon was a hardworker. He could fix, build, rebuild, remodel, overhaul, paint or plumb absolutely anything.
He had a passion for cars. He was a huge NASCAR fan, in particular he collected Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon memorabilia. Over the years he built, rebuilt, restored and painted many cars for himself and others. His favorite cars were his Corvettes. Most recently he was the happiest when driving his new Corvette around town.
Survivors are daughters Angie (JR) Brester, Jill Asselin, siblings Demaris (James) Berger, Janna (Randy) Smith, Kelly (Gigi) Asselin, Randy (Julee) Asselin, sisters-in-law Vickie McHenry, Robin Dean, Sue (Jerry) Tynan, Teresa Drummond, brothers-in-law James (Demaris) Berger, Eric Berger and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and so many FRIENDS.
Lon leaves behind grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lon was known as “Papa” to Paije (Chris) Pietra of CO, Payton Mooney, Justin (Tori) Brester, Brenden (Maddie) Brester, Carlee (Sage) Macke all of Gering. Great Papa to Brooks Brester, Lennon and Atlas Macke, and Everett Brester.
And his dogs Katie, Danni, and Tommy, who he loved with all his heart, and who kept him going everyday.
Lon was preceded in death by his wife Laura Jo, infant son Justin, granddaughter Sydnee Brester, sisters-in-law Elizabeth (Lisa), Shelley Berger, parents Lew and Audre and in-laws Jack and Tootie (Arva Mae) Berger, as well as many others.
His celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 10:00 am at Gering Memorial Chapel with Father Mike McDonald officiating. Casual attire-Lon was a jeans and NASCAR or Corvette t-shirt kind of guy.
