I first met Virginia at Kizzire Chevrolet when she worked in book keeping. Her life was difficult then with the long illness of LaVerne. Later, she became a member of the original Gering Tourism Committee where she was a hard worker in the many projects this group did for Gering. Virginia had a lot of goodness to her … one of those unassuming souls amongst us. We were all weathering the world and in the simplicity of her ways, she helped many of us get thru. One of the most endearing qualities of Virginia was her sense of humor. The Gering Tourism ‘gang” was kept laughing with Virginia’s one liners that would come out at the oddest times - like during those many nights and days making “taverns” in many, many crock pots in many kitchens throughout Gering for OTDays (as a fundraiser for the committee). When we were all starting to get on each other’s nerves from standing all day in the park, or hauling crock pots across town, or the clean up after, Virginia would crack a joke when we least expected it. We would all be laughing so hard we had to stop what we were doing to catch our breath. The last time I talked with her was at the last OTDays Art Show. We took some time to go lean on a wall and talk. And, once again, as we shared memories and stories, she had me laughing with that wonderful sense of humor and her ability to deliver a humorous line at the right time (it is a gift you know). RIP old friend, you deserve the quiet time.
