

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Allister MacDonald. He passed away on Sunday, July 22,2012 at his home on Lake Road surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Roderick and Sadie (MacDonald) MacDonald.
Allister worked for Scotia Chrysler for many years as parts manager, retiring in 1995. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay where he served as treasurer for 8 years and also served on the board of managers and the board of trustees. Allister spent the last 43 years at his summer home on Trout Brook Rd. Mira where he watched his children and grandchildren grow up. Time spent here with Elizabeth, their children and grandchildren was most precious to Allister. He was also a constant fixture working happily in his beloved garden at home. He took enormous pride in his flowers. Allister was a good neighbor and friend to many.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Elizabeth (Colton), daughters; Wendy (John) Yates, Glace Bay, Sharon (David) Pemberton, Lower Sackville, Janice (Janssen Curtis),Calgary, and sons; Reg (Julia), Ottawa, and Darryl (Heather), Antigonish. He will be also sadly missed by his grandchildren; Miriam, Laura, Rebecca, Alex, Ian, Justin, Olivia and Ashley. He is also survived by sister, Florence (Jan) Janbroers, Victoria, BC. , brother in law, Everett Colton and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his father in law and mother in law, John and Alice Colton and brother in law, Seaton “Rusty” Milne.
Visitation for Allister MacDonald will be held on Tuesday, July 24,2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Patten Funeral Home 71 Union Street Glace Bay, N.S. Funeral service will take place at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Brookside Street on Wednesday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Charles MacPherson officiating. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Grand Lake Road, Sydney.
Donations in Allister’s memory may be made to the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Building Fund, Palliative Care Society or to a charity of choice. Words of comfort may be left for the family at: www.pattenfuneral.ca
