OBITUARY

Audrey Greer

December 10, 1929March 12, 2020

Audrey Greer, Glace Bay/ Morden. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Audrey (Denny) Greer, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. The daughter of the late Mary (Denny) Clarke, she was predeceased by her brother, Sydney (Sid) Denny and the love of her life, Roy, husband of almost 40 years. Left to miss her always are daughters Wendy, Nancy (Dan Hartley), and Cheryl (Pat Van Meekeren) and stepson Ed; grandchildren Jennifer, Jacob, Katelyn, Brandon, Ashley, Ashton, Emma, and Sarah; great grandchildren Hailey, Wyatt and Bridgette, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mom was born in Glace Bay on December 10, 1929 and lived most of her life there. She graduated from Nova Scotia Normal (Teachers) College in 1950 and taught in Englishtown, New Waterford, Reserve Mines and Glace Bay. She married Dad on August 2, 1954. When her health started to decline, she moved to Morden to live with daughter Cheryl in 2017. Besides working and raising three daughters, mom was an avid volunteer. She was involved in Kinettes, was secretary and then treasurer for Epworth United Church, later treasurer for Knox UCW; As a representative at Sydney Presbytery and delegate to the Maritime Conference of the United Church of Canada, she was a tireless proponent of the Mission and Service Fund. Throughout her life, mom also volunteered with the Citizens' Service League, Friends of the Savoy, was on the executive of the Glace Bay Figure Skating Club, and became a score accountant with the Nova Scotia Section of the CFSA. Mom's greatest joy was her family, and she was always so proud of every accomplishment of her children, and especially her grandchildren. She was happiest when everyone could be together. If some of us were together, she would take joy in who was there, but always point out who was missing. We owe so much to you, Mom. You taught us to sew, to knit, to bake, and most importantly to be strong, always pushing us to do our best and do the right thing. Thanks for taking us to the rink at ridiculously early hours, often with protests from us, driving us to countless test days and competitions. For always being there when we needed you, giving all you could and then some. Through all the joys and trials in life, you were with us. We never doubted your love. It's now your time to rest. Know that we will always love and miss you. Give Dad a hug for us. Nancy and Wendy would like to give a special Thank You to Cheryl for taking such wonderful care of Mom over the past few years and especially the last few weeks. Visitation and service will be decided on at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Knox United Church, Berwick United Church Camp or charity of you choice.

Audrey and I served on the Maritime Conference Stewardship Committee, so very many years ago.
She was dedicated to the work, when we were so much more involved in M & S during those years. Blessings upon the family of Audrey.

The Nortons from Cottage 54, Berwick Camp, extend our sincere sympathy to Audrey's family. You saw to it that she was able to attend Berwick for as long as that was possible. We know that the 10-day encampment was special to her. Until Berwick meets again,

Dear Wendy,
I first met your mother in 2005 when we were lucky enough to have you guys as neighbours at Berwick Camp. Over the years, I always looked forward to our chats. She amazed me, still tenting at 80 years old! She was lovely, friendly and kind, but it was her love of family that stood out above all else. She was so close with you and loved spending time with Emma and Sarah. It was wonderful that they grew up with her being such a big part of their lives. When I read the obituary about her commitment to her children and their activities, it reminded me of you with your commitment to the girls through choir, band, etc. She obviously taught you how to be a wonderful mother too. Thinking of you all during this difficult time. Hugs and prayers. - Sue and family

"Morning has broken" with the news I read on our camp FB page. Dear Audrey was one of those faces that made Berwick Camp such a beautiful and friendly place. I will forever remember her smile, the pride she felt as a mother and grandmother, her updates on the months between camps, and always her friendly demeanor. Audrey will be a presence that I will feel for years to come, when I look into the faces of her family or walk past the front stoop of the camp cottage. Thank you for being such a wonderful friend, Audrey!
