Glace Bay
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and sister, Catherine Metcalfe, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, with family at her side.
Born in Glace Bay, she the daughter of the late Alphonse and Winnifred (Byrnes).
Kay was a seamstress in Glace Bay for many years and ran Kay’s Tailor Shop. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. Kay was a member of Reserve Pensioners Club and involved in the Caledonia Ladies Dart League until her illness.
Kay is survived by her children, Rose (Rick Wilcox ), Wayne (Donna), Anne (Claude Milley), Peggy (Fred Boutilier); her grandchildren, Corrine (Donnie), Kenneth (Andrea), Angela (Brian), Christian, Allison, Denise (Greg), Cherise, Gerard and Tim and five great-grandchildren. Also survived by sisters, Beatrice(Moore), Willena Arsenault, Mary Saccary; brother, Myles (Dorothy).
Kay was predeceased by her parents, also by grandson, Dougie, daughter-in-law, Bertha Ann, siblings, Jake, Leo, Annie Knox, Theresa Rowe, Irene Lynk and late husband Russell.
Visitation for Kay will take place today (Tuesday, Nov. 5) from 7-9 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, and on Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 7 in Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Burial at later Date
