It is with profound sadness that the family of Charlene Snow announce her sudden passing on December 30, 2022. She was a beautiful mother, wife, sister, grandmother and friend; not to mention a very enthusiastic hockey Nan.
Charlene was born in Glace Bay and spent most of her life in Donkin with the exception of her teenage years in Mira. She graduated from Donkin Morien District High and spent most of her career as a teacher’s aide, a job she truly loved.
But first and foremost she was the matriarch of her family, or as we referred to her - the ‘glue.’ This rings true not only for her immediate family but her siblings, cousins and parents as well. You could always count on Charlene. During their 47 years of marriage, Charlene and Freddie raised Sandy and Dennis; their life together highlighted with many happy memories and challenges they got through together. Blake, Nora, Marissa, Mallorie and Cameron were the apples of her eye. She took great joy from the children (big and small) in her life and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them.
While she was never a pushover or afraid to speak her mind, she was best known for her extremely kind heart, hilarious wit and contagious laugh. She spent many, many hours in the rink cheering on her grandson Blake and wasn’t afraid to shop while she was on the road for tournaments. She gave the best Christmas presents and her chocolate cake with boiled icing was a family favorite. Nora will miss her shopping and lunch dates with Nana, where they both provided entertainment for shoppers at Superstore, Walmart and Winners.
Charlene was predeceased by her parents, Murray and Margaret Shepard, beloved brother Sandy, brother Roy in infancy as well as in-laws Fred and Thelma Snow. She was also predeceased by her special friend Justin Jenkins.
She is survived by her husband Freddie and sons Dennis (Katherine), Sandy (Michelle), grandson Blake (Kristen), Marissa (Brandon), Mallorie and Nora, as well as great grandson Cameron. She is also survived by siblings Eric (Valerie), Roger (Linda), Wendy (Walter), Kirk (Leslie) and sister in laws Darlene (Martin) and Michelle. She also leaves behind her cousin and best friend, Phyllis (Blair) Hunter and many nieces and nephews of whom she was very proud.
A celebration of life will be held at the Glace Bay Miners Forum in the Community Room on Monday, January 9th at 3 PM, reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.pattenfuneral.com.
