He is survived by his wife, Greta of 57 years; sons, David and James(Elaine); grandchildren, Christopher, Heather (Kevin Merrill) and Erika(Joel Peach) and three great-grandchildren.
Donnie was predeceased by his parents, Donnell and Florence Kerr, his sons, Ross and Brad and his siblings, Allister (Mynn), Lois (Duncan Ferguson) and Jean (Blair Phillips).
Donnie¹s early working years were on the S&L Railway before switching to sales with first Sears and then Wrigley¹s Gum. Turning down a transfer from Wrigley¹s to move to Halifax, Donnie started his own business Don Kerr Insurance so he could remain in Glace Bay.
Singing was always a passion with Donnie and he expressed this passion when
he sang with the Men of the Deeps and Knox United Church choir. He was also a dedicated Mason and was Past Master of The Tyrian Youth Lodge 45.
The family would like to thank the Cape Breton County Homemakers Society and the VON who provided wonderful comfort for Donnie allowing him to remain at home.
A memorial service will be held for Donnie at Knox United Church, Wednesday,July 13 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Finlayson presiding. A reception will follow in the Memorial Room of the church. There will be no prior
visitation. A Masonic service will take place preceding the funeral.
Arrangements are under the direction of Patten Funeral Home.
