Donald Murray Mackinnon

July 10 1923- Nov 7 2011

It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the untimely passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Donald Murray MacKinnon, on Monday, November 7, 2011 at the Glace Bay General Hospital.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Isabelle and Donald John MacKinnon. He was a devoted husband and best friend to his wife of 57 years, Audrey; and a loving father to his children, Bruce (Shiela), Robin (Anita), and Trina; grandchildren Colin, Kristen (their mother Wendy), Kevin, Cora Lee (her son Gabriel), Nickalus and Robin Jr.; and his great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by the little girl Kielo and the big guy Molson.

Donald was the last surviving member of his family.

He was pre-deceased by his wife Audrey, his brothers Stewart, Stanley and sister Mary.

Donald served in the Air Force, he worked at MacLeod's bookstore and Devco Railway. He was a Boy Scout leader, a cabinetmaker and avid skater.

As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 6-8pm Friday Nov 11, at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay. Memorial service will be held on Saturday Nov 12 at 11am at Knox United Church, Glace Bay.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Donald's memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice.
