It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Errol Jewells on Thursday May 27, 2021 after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer at Glace Bay General Hospital with his family by his side.
Born in Glace Bay and growing up in Port Morien, Errol was the son of the late Robert Harold Jewells and the late Susan (MacDonald) Jewells. As a younger man, Errol loved his cars. The faster, the better as was told in many stories. He had many obstacles in his life to overcome, his most difficult challenge was loosing his arm at the age of 21. This only made him more determined and independent which would help him later in life with his battle against his illness. He never looked at himself as handicap and there was nothing he couldn’t do with that one very strong arm. He worked as a foreman on many grants throughout his career reconstructing many churches and halls in Port Morien, Glace Bay, and Donkin.
Living in Donkin for a number of years with his family, his garage was always open to the young fellas in the neighborhood to fix a bicycle or dirt bike, and the phone was always on for a tow out of a ditch no matter the time of day or the weather.
Later after a move to Glace Bay with his family, he got to fulfill a lifelong dream in retirement and refurbish some old antique cars. Again with his one arm and determination, he rebuilt some very dilapidated vehicles leading him and my Mother to become members of the Antique and Custom Car Club where he formed new friendships and rekindled old ones. He was also an active member of the Glace Bay Senior and Pensioners Club. He enjoyed many summers with his family and friends camping in Mira and having a good cup of tea around the campfire.
Everywhere he went he made a new friend and always had a story to tell, whether it be to a stranger or with the boys at Tim Hortons.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter Phyllis, I couldn’t have asked for a better Dad, and also Michael whom he adored. He is survived by his mother-in-law Phyllis (Gosley) Snow who he loved and respected and often could hear him call her “my right hand man”. He is survived by sisters Mary, Anette, Kathleen, and also 2 brothers Terry and Lawrence, along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by the love of his life of 45 years, his wife Linda (Snow) Jewells, brothers Bobby, Kenny, Matthew, Lewis, and his father-in-law Albert Snow.
Due to Covid-19 Restriction, a private service will be held under the direction of Patten Funeral Home>
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Society. Memories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.pattenfuneral.com
