It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, cousin and aunt Flora MacKenzie, age 87, of Reserve Mines. Mom passed away peacefully on April 11,2020, in Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional hospital. She was born on July 15,1932, in Glace Bay.
She was the precious mother of Sharon (Winston) Vardy, Vivian St-Jules, Kevin (Cheryl Cameron), and Donna (Rob) Debison, dear grandmother to Kevin Joseph, Chris, Ryan, Andre, Kirkland, Jade, Suzanna, David, Andrea, Emma and Jaime; great grandmother to Anthony and Neisha. She is also survived by her loving sisters and brother, Cecilia, Nellie and Art (Lillian) and her two cousins Mary and Jeannie(Freddie) who were like her sisters and best friends. She is also survived by her dear nieces and nephews John (Janice), Virginia (Timmy), Ida (Dwight), Susan (Lewis), Tanya, AJ (Stacy) and Debbie her “other daughter”, as well as her “other son” Wade.
Mom was predeceased by her loving husband and our dear father Arthur, her parents John and Susan Driscoll, her loving brother John, her dear aunt and namesake Flora, and her niece Trina.
Mom was raised in Glace Bay where she joined the Salvation Army and became a band member as a teenager. She married our father in 1954 and they moved to Catalone where they raised their four children. She joined the MacMillan Memorial United Church in Catalone where she thrived attending the many committees that the church had to offer, eventually becoming organist and choir director there, as well as for the First United Church in Louisbourg, for over 30 years. When she moved to Reserve Mines in 2007, she attended the Glace Bay Salvation Army once again and became active in many committees. Her strong Faith has inspired many people who knew her.
Mom has a very healthy lifestyle and enjoyed walking and working out. She was loved by all who knew her and loved everyone she met. Mom was very family oriented and was adored by her grandchildren, whom she loved very much. We will all miss her dearly and we will carry her in our hearts forever.
