It is with profound sadness that we the family announce the unexpected passing of John Daniel Ryan, known to his friends as “Danny or Dano”, on June 29, 2019 at his home in Spring Hill, Florida. Born on May 27, 1960 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia to Catherine (Pineau) and the late Vincent Ryan. He will be forever missed by his wife Leona (Murphy) Ryan, daughter Terra (Mike) Sovinsky, and two dear grandchildren, Ella and Tyler who lovingly called him “Poppy”. Danny’s love of baseball started at an early age and eventually led him to being selected as part of the gold medal winning Nova Scotia Canada Games Men’s Softball team in 1981. In 2001 the team was inducted into the Nova Scotia sports Hall of Fame. An avid hockey player, he also loved fishing and hunting. The latter of which he spent doing with four special friends he fondly called “The Donkin mafia”. Like his father before him, Danny was a past member of the Donkin volunteer Fire Department. Although raised in Donkin, Mira was his second home. He absolutely loved spending his summers there with his family at the “bungalow”. Danny moved to Florida 25 years ago and was employed as an Engineering technician for Professional Service Industries. A devoted NASCAR fan, he loved number “24” Jeff Gordon. One of the many things he loved about living in Florida was attending NASCAR races with his wife Leona, golfing, and fishing all year long, on the Gulf of Mexico. Danny also played on a few local softball and bowling teams in Florida, where he made many friends who enjoyed his special sense of humor, exaggerated storytelling, and competitive nature. Pre-deceased by mother and father in-law, Moses and Georgina (McPherson) Murphy. Survived by sisters Darlene (David) MacMullen, Kim (Jimmy) Horne, Krista (Kevin) MacLean. Sisters in-law Gloria (Alex) McNeil, Esther (Bob) Truckair, Darlene (Gordon) MacPhee, Mary Peddle. Brothers in-law Joseph Murphy, Barney (Kelly) Murphy. Also left to mourn are many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. Aaron MacMullen, Matthew (Samantha and Mason) MacMullen ,Laurel (Adam and Oakley) Edmond, Danielle (Brian) Ryan, Ryan Horne

Hi everybody,
I am so sorry to hear about Danny .
Although he was a few years ahead of me, I remember him at D.M.D.H. . Danny always had a smile for everyone and a kind word.
My heart goes out to you all for this terrible loss and I'm praying that God will help you through.
Hang onto all of those precious memories that you have of Danny, knowing all of the joy he gave , there'd be lots.
As I have learned through losing a loved one early in life , the best way to honour them is to talk about them and to carry on loving those around you like they did.

With Sympathy,

Sherry ( Mac Dougall ) Harle

I had the pleasure of being Danny's across-the-street neighbor for several years. I will always remember him as the friendly neighbor willing to lend a hand. He and Leona were our traditional first stop every Halloween, little Meadow looked forward to his treats and sense of humor! We also looked forward to Mom's annual visit! He loved his family, home, and taking pristine care of his lawn, home, boat, and truck. The impressive diagonal lines on the grass made him a tough act to follow! I always smile and think of him when I hear "Get What you Give" by the New Radicals. He enjoyed listening to this song in the driveway while proudly polishing his truck. There were years when it was just my girls and I, and I always felt like Danny kept a watchful eye on us. I was devastated to hear of this news, and my heart breaks for Leona, Mom, and family. Danny, you are missed!

To Danny’s Family and Friends: It is at times like these that we are brought to reality and the fact we shouldn’t take our life on this earth for granted; every day is a gift. You lost your loved one way too soon; and we, here, in our tiny village, all lost a great friend. Danny, we enjoyed so many great times .... in school, at Annabell’s, at your parents’ home, Mira, the Miner’s Forum and, yes, The Legion. You always had a smile on your face, a joke to share, a story to tell. Although your time on this earth was shorter than any of us would like, you lived each minute to the fullest. You will never be forgotten. Rest In Peace, dear friend. Sincerest sympathy and prayers to your loved ones. David and Rosemary Howie
