

It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Lui on September 26, 2013 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with family at his side.
Lui was a quiet family man who cherished his wife and children and a close circle of friends. As a young man, Lui joined the Canadian Air Force serving his tour of duty in Germany. While in the Air Force, he struck up a friendship with Greg Larade from New Waterford. Upon their completion of air force service, they came back to Cape Breton to start up an egg business which Lui was involved with for a number of years. After leaving the egg business, Lui started doing carpentry work and soon became an independent carpenter building homes for clients in the Glace Bay area. Over the 40 years Lui worked this trade, he became well respected and sought after for his fine craftsmanship.
Lui leaves behind his wife Rose (MacDonald); daughter Elma (Kevin) Farrell; son Alan (both of Halifax); sister Bruna (James) Bailey; brother Pasquale (Tina) (Ontario); brothers-in-law Rev. Jackie (Sheila) MacDonald and Gerald Farrell (Ontario); sisters-in-law Muriel Campbell and Margaret MacDonald. Also survived by nephew, best friend and business partner David Bailey and many other nieces and nephews.
Lui is predeceased by his parents, Silvio and Theresa (Marangoni) Baretta.
Visititation will take place at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay on Monday September 30th from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will take place at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport on Tuesday October 1st at 11a.m. with Father Leo Boone, assisted by Rev. Jackie MacDonald. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney Highway. Reception in the church hall following service.
