

Margaret Fraser Nicholson passed away Sunday, February 21,2010 at Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay at the age of 94.
Born Feb. 20, 1916, in Reserve Mines she was the youngest daughter of the late Rev. D.J. and Dolena (MacKay) Nicholson and the last surviving grandchild of Senator William MacKay. She was educated in Reserve Mines and Glace Bay.
In 1942 she went to Malton, Ontario to work in the war effort and after that in Toronto and Kitchener for a time. In 1958, after the death of her aunt Dr. Georgina MacKay she returned to Reserve Mines to care for her mother and manage the household of her brother, the late Dr. William Nicholson.
She was a strong supporter of Gordon United Church, Reserve Mines where her father had served as minister. In her later years she enjoyed many trips with her family.
Margaret Nicholson is survived by her nephew, David Ervin, Sydney, nieces; Linda (Brennan) Sheppard, Howie Center, Gail (Robert) Muir, Coxheath and special nephew, Carl Ley, Reserve Mines, grandnephews; Alan Ley, Dr. David (Ann) Ley, Andrew and Paul Sheppard, Robert W.G. Muir, grandnieces, Margo (Angus) Nicholson, Catherine Muir, great grandniece, Marissa Ley, great grandnephews, Ryan Ley and Matthew and Dillon Nicholson.
She was predeceased by her sisters, her twin Jean (Ernest) Mink, Catherine (Keith) Ervin, Annie (Clarence) Beaton, Marion Nicholson, her brother, Dr. William Nicholson and her niece, Marion Ley.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 27,2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay. Funeral service will be Sunday 2:00 pm in Gordon United Church, Reserve Mines with Martha MacDonald Lay Minister officiating. Burial in will be in Gordon United Church Cemetery following the service.
