

Woodie Wilson passed away suddenly on June 7, 2010 at the Glace Bay General Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay where he resided most of his life, he was the son of the late Norman Wilson and Mary Flora (MacDonald) Wilson.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Annie Laurie (Roach), sons Darryl (Joy), Sydney River, Kirk, Houston, Texas; daughter, Shauna (Paul Oldford ); grandchildren, Lara, Erin, Paul, Nan, Annie Beth and Daniel ,whom he loved dearly; brother in law Pat MacDougall, Carver, Massachusetts, a nephew and several nieces.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by daughter in law, Eileen (Hull), sister, Dolly brother, John and his wife Doris (MacDougall) and brother Donald in infancy.
In his younger years he was employed by Turner Construction and MacManus Construction and as a bus driver with the Glace Bay Tram Company and Acadian Lines. For thirty years he was employed by the Registry of Motor Vehicles as a driver examiner, driver improvement officer, school bus inspector, safety education officer and defensive driving instructor, retiring in 1989.
He was actively involved in his community and church. He served as town councilor for 11 years and Deputy Mayor for one term. He was a proud member of the Glace Bay Volunteer Fire Department for fifty years, serving as the department’s treasurer for many years. He belonged to IOOF Aberdeen Lodge # 68 holding the office of Past Nobel Grand and Chaplain. He was an active member of his church, Knox United, serving on numerous church committees and as an elder for many years.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 11, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay. Funeral service will take place at Knox United Church, Commercial Street, Glace Bay, on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 2:00 pm with reception to follow in the church basement. Family interment at a later date.
