Glace Bay
It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden death of our loving husband, father, grandfather, son- in- law, brother, uncle and dear friend Norman Ferguson of Glace Bay on July 31, 2015. Born in Glace Bay Norm was he son of the later Ronald and Viola ( MacVicar) Ferguson.
He was a hard working dedicated employee of Mason's Wholesale for over 34 years. Normie as many of his customers called him spent many of those years as a salesman calling on many businesses across the island. His dedication to his job was obvious when you could count on one hand not how many sick days he took in a year, but how many years he actually took a sick day.
Norman enjoyed fishing over the years especially the traditional May 24th weekend with the Atkinson men and friends. Since his retirement Norm has gotten great enjoyment from ice fishing with Kent, Dave, Tom and dear friend since boyhood Donnie Pond. Norm was know for not only not always lending a hand to anyone working on their house, cottage or car but also being able to supply the tools and parts where needed.
Norman always took great pride in both his yard in the Bay and also enjoyed puttering in his gardens at his beloved bungalow in Catalone. For 35 years Norm worked tirelessly to make "The Land" a second home for he and Donna to enjoy and share with their parents, children, grandchildren and friends.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 48 years Donna (Atkinson), daughter Cori (Darryl Morrison) of Cow Bay, son Scott (Tammy), of Middle Sackville, Grampy's girls Kaitlyn, Emma, Ashley and Gracie, "mother"-in-law Vera, sister Florence (Clare) Wadden, brothers and sisters-in-law or as he thought of them as just brothers and sisters, Kent and Marion Atkinson and Dave and Linda Hillier, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents Norm was predeceased by his brother and best friend Robert (Bobby) and sister-in-law Gloria Ferguson, father-in-law Allan and niece Carolyn Ferguson.
Visitation for the late Norman Ferguson will take place at Patten's Funeral Home, Glace Bay on Wednesday August 5th from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 7:00 - 9;00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday on August 6th at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church Glace Bay at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Allan MacLellan officiating. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
