IIt is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we the family announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend. Kevin Hooper of Donkin passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Monday, December 14th, 2015.
Born in Glace Bay, on December 25th, 1953, he was the son of the late Douglas (Doey) and Elena (Favaro) Hooper.
Kevin was employed with Devco for 19 years. He worked in many mines over these years starting in #26 and finishing in Phalen Collery. He was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 5 and an Honorary member of the Donkin Volunteer Fire Department.
Kevin's simple pleasures were watching his Detroit Red Wings and his L.A Dodgers while tormenting the Leaf and Bruin members of the family! Kevin always enjoyed a game of cards and pictionary with family and friends and all the memories that were made. Before his accident in 1994, he had a great passion for a good game of baseball and his girls were his biggest fans!
He devoted all his time to his grandchildren that he loved so dearly. The one thing that the grandkids will miss the most will be his tormenting nature and unconditional love!
Kevin was predeceased by his parents and brother, Bobby. Left to mourn are his wife and best friend Elizabeth (Kelloway) Hooper, his four girls, Lynnette (Shaun), Marlene (Robbie), Kim (James), and Noelle (Jennifer), his six grandchildren, sister Marilyn, brothers Tony (Bernadette), David (Mary), and Hibbert (Norma) and several nieces and nephews.
Despite all of his trials and tribulations he will always be remembered for his infectious smile, sense of humour and positive outlook! He will forever be in our hearts and missed by so many who had the pleasure of knowing him!
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 18th, 2015 at the Patten Funeral Home in Glace Bay from 2pm - 4pm and 7pm - 9pm. Funeral service will be held at St. Luke's United Church in Donkin on Saturday December 19th, 2015 at 11am.
Online condolences can be sent to family at www.pattenfuneral.com.
Kevin has touched so many lives during his journey including those who provided his outstanding care throughout the years. His family would like to thank Dr. Mark Ellerker, Dr. Naqvi, Dr. Ansari, Michelle MacNeil (O.T.), ICU and CCU nursing staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital along with the all the staff at the Glace Bay General Hospital, VON especially Debbie Boutilier, Sherry Burke and Amanda Borden, and Paramedics. Your kindness and compassion towards him in his time of need meant the world to us. He had the upmost respect for each and everyone of you who provided care for him.
