January 15, 1929 – January 18, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Gordon Reginald "Reg" Clark announces his passing on Monday night, January 18 at Seaview Manor in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. He was 92. Reg was born January 15, 1929 in Donkin, Nova Scotia. He was the oldest of four boys and one girl born to the late Gordon and Elise Clark. Reg went on to study sociology at Dalhousie University, the London School of Economics, and Moscow State University. He made a living as pipefitter, working across Canada, a proud, progessive union man fighting for social justice and the plight of the downtrodden. He was a raconteur, a storyteller, and an entertainer, but he was also an unabashed truth-teller, someone who always told it like it is. He was a modern Renaissance man, with an avid thirst for knowledge, a devoted reader throughout his life. He could hold court in any number of fields of study, be it philosophy, poetry, politics and history to name but a few. A lively, sparkling wit, he enjoyed his social occasions, and in his younger days, he enjoyed his libations. Later in life, Reg also wrote a recurring newspaper column for the Cape Breton Post. Reg spent the last years of his life at Seaview Manor, just miles from his birthplace and boyhood home in Donkin. In his room, he could look out his window, and see the shores along Glace Bay where he played as a boy and travelled as a young man. Cape Breton was a part of him. It won't be the same without him.
The family would like to especially thank the good people at Seaview Manor for their kindness and care to Reg, especially in his final days. The nurses there were heroic in caring for him and being there for him at his passing. Thank you so very much. The family would also like to thank Mr Kevin MacDonald, Reg's social worker for a time. For being such a kind, helpful and devoted friend to Reg, Mr Macdonald's generosity of spirit and deed went far beyond the call of duty. Thank you.
