Ruth Reid

We the family of Ruth Reid regret to announce her passing at the age of 91 at the Glace Bay Hospital July 19, 2020. Born in 1928 in Donkin, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Jean (Robertson) MacLeod. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Hugh Reid; brothers Dave, Robert, John, Neil, Alex and Donald; sisters Annie, Elizabeth (Wibby), Isabel, Jean and Helen. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by son Kenny (Charlene), daughter Helen (Lonnie) Murphy; grandchildren Colin (Kerri), Jennifer (Allan), Terry (Raven), John Robert (Tara); great grandchildren Jayln, Callie, Evie, Jordyn, Mason, Jaxon; sister-in-law Lois MacLeod and brother-in-law Campbell (Hazel) Reid and her many nieces and nephews of whom she dearly loved and was so proud of.

Ma’s support, love and dedication to her family was her passion. Interested in their goals and achievements from her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their children and the neighbourhood kids, she loved to hear it all.

She loved sports and followed it all on television; Olympics, curling, figure skating…you name it, but the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays were her teams, rare would she miss a game on TSN.

Family flowers only. Donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to St. Luke’s United Church General Fund or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A private funeral service will be held at Patten Funeral Home. Those wishing to attend virtually may access the live stream on Friday July 24 at 2pm via Patten Facebook page. Interment in St. Luke’s United Church Cemetery, Donkin. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.pattenfuneral.com.

Kenny and Charlene and family,
Harry and I are sorry to learn of Ruth’s passing. I knew she was from a large family, but I had not realized just how many siblings she had! We both know how tough it is to lose one’s mom. Although we did not know Ruth, we know she raised a daughter and a son who are both well liked and respected in their communities. We know you, Kenny, to be a “great guy”! I did know many of those in your mom’s family, and I liked them all! Your family is in our thoughts and in our prayers.
