

Sarah was the daughter of the late Albert and Catherine (MacPhee) Rideout.
Sarah is survived by nieces, Gail Gouthro and Roberta Melnick and nephews John Mercer and Kenny Mercer. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Stanley in 2006 and sister Frances Mercer in 2009. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Sarah was a teacher having graduated from Normal College in Truro. She taught in various schools in the Glace Bay area. Sarah was a member of Knox United Church where she served on various committees and was involved in the Scouting movement for many years. She was very active in the Glace Bay Citizen’s Service League where she served as a nursery school teacher and as a member of the board of directors. Other of Sarah’s interests were her Tuesday afternoon bowling league and Teen Town where she and Stanley chaperoned for many years. Neighborhood children will always remember the Maclean’s house as a place you could visit where the cookie jar was always full.
At Sarah’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 21 , 2010 at 11:00 am in Knox United Church, Glace bay. A reception to follow at the church Memorial Room. Burial for Stanley and Margaret will follow at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Sarah’s memory are suggested for Knox United Church or the Glace Bay Town House.
