Seward (Patty) Alden Patton, aged 92, Port Mouton, formerly of Halifax, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013, at Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, Nova Scotia. Born February 17, 1921, son of Robert Earl Patton and his first wife, Gertrude Louise Archibald; his family lived at various places in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, and Seward was born while they lived in Windham Hill, Colchester County, Nova Scotia. Eventually, they settled in Port Caledonia, Cape Breton, and Seward lived there until he moved to Halifax in 1942, where he started work at the dockyards.
He was called “Patty” by his co-workers at the CFB Halifax Dockyards, where he worked as a welder. He retired in 1986. He lived in Halifax until early 2011, when he moved to live at Stonehaven Lodge in Port Mouton, Queens County.
A gentleman of integrity, dealing with life's challenges with patience and honesty, Seward worked hard to make sure his family was well provided for.
Seward was slow spoken, with a phenomenal memory for details, faces, dates and names. When you asked a question, you had to be prepared for a complete, well thought out answer. Seward was no less meticulous when he worked at clock making and wood working after his retirement.
Survived by son John Seward (Teresa) in New Glasgow, daughters Florina (Irvine) in British Columbia, and Gloria (Tim) in Port Mouton, sisters Aileen, Violet, Louise, Beulah (Jim) and Roberta (John) who reside in Ontario, Ellen (Chuck) in PEI, and Gertrude (Carl) in Big Pond, 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss him dearly.
