Shirley Hennessey

Mrs. Shirley Elsie Hennessey, daughter of Roland & Elsie Smith of Glace Bay, N.S., passed peacefully at Victoria Haven Nursing Home. Formerly of 8 Norwood St., Glace Bay.

Shirley was a private person who had a wonderful laugh and love of life. She adored her children and called them her best friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her treasures on earth.

The only thing she liked better than fishing at L.A., was gardening. She could make anything grow.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Harold) Brufatto, Glace Bay; sons, R.W. 'Wally' Hennessey (Anne Fowler), Cameron Lake, N.S.; K.W. Keith Hennessey (Lena Landry), Ardoise, N.S.; grandchildren, Lori, Christine, Raymond, Matthew, Lisa and James. Also she has 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lester Smith, Fred Smith (Sharon), sister, Dena Brown (Jim) and sister-in-law, Geta Smith (Rollie).

Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Francis Hennessey in January of this year; a son in infancy, Francis; daughter, Jeannie Marie; brothers, Raymond Smith; Roland 'Rollie' Smith; sisters, Lorraine Smith, Vivianne Moore, Norma Attwood and Greta Morrison.

There will be no visitation by Shirley's request.

For those who would like to pay their respects, there will be a celebration service at St. Mary's Anglican Church at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 13, 2014.

Family flowers only. Donations may be made to palliative care, Alzheimer's Society, or charity of choice in Shirley's name.
