Anthony James "Jim" Berls was born in Leoville, Kansas on June 27, 1936. After graduating from high school, Jim attended community college on a basketball scholarship. He then enlisted in the US Army where he served during the Korean War. Jim later received his Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration from Fort Hayes State University.
Jim spent his career working for the Department of the Treasury as a special agent. He married Janet Kay Wallin in 1963 in Omaha, Nebraska. A lifelong athlete, Jim enjoyed playing tennis and golf.
Jim is preceded in death by his son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Tasha. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Janet; his children, Lisa and Douglas; and his granddaughter, Ava who was the light of his life. He also leaves behind many extended family members who loved him dearly.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 23 followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Parish, 900 NE Shady Lane Drive, Kansas City, MO 64118. A luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the food pantry at St. Charles Borromeo Parish.
