
Armilda Elizabeth Spicer Norris died peacefully surrounded by her family and caregivers on Monday, August 31, 2015. Milda was born to Otto and Edna (Chapman) Spicer in Fillmore, MO on September 22, 1914. She lived in northwest Missouri until moving to Atchison, KS at the age of 14. Her family moved to Nashua, MO just before Milda’s senior year at North Kansas City High School. After graduation, Lloyd Norris began flirting with the pretty girl who lived near the Old Dutch Mill Gas Station, where he worked. Milda and Lloyd were married at her parents’ home May 24, 1935. They began their marriage in a one room apartment in North Kansas City. Lloyd and a partner eventually opened A and N Hardware and Supply in Northtown where Milda and he lived for many years. While Lloyd was busy at the store, Milda enjoyed being a mother, homemaker and volunteer. She was an excellent seamstress and loved entertaining family and friends. Milda was very involved in supporting all of her children’s activities throughout their school years. She was very active in the North Kansas City First Christian Church where she was a member for over 75 years. Milda was a children’s Sunday School teacher, deaconess and leader in Christian Women’s Fellowship. She became a volunteer at the North Kansas City Hospital soon after it opened. Milda loved to be with her family, visit with friends, travel, fish, and play cards, dominos and bingo. She was known for her bright smile, quick wit and stylish clothes. Milda was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Edna Spicer; a brother, William Spicer; and her beloved husband, Lloyd. She is survived by her children; son, Tom and wife, Gretchen and daughter, Joy and husband, Chet; grandsons, Trent Norris and partner, Jack Calhoun, Troy Norris and partner, Ewa Hart, Andy George and wife, Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Jacqueline, Tyler and Jason Norris, and Alex and Jack George; and nieces, Elta Shields and Jane Wunderlich. She will be missed by the many people whose lives she touched throughout her long, well-lived life. Service 2:00pm Saturday September 5, 2015 White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Rd Gladstone, MO 64119. Interment White Chapel Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the North Kansas City First Christian Church or NorthCare Hospice.
