Barbie was a life-long resident of the Kansas City area and retired after many years as a Secretary and Bookkeeper at Consolidated Freightways. She and her beloved husband Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Brown had just celebrated 57 years of marriage at the time of his unexpected passing in 2018. ‘Ken and Barbie’ met when they were on separate bowling leagues; and while dating (undeterred by their height difference) enjoyed dancing at the Pla-Mor Ballroom and The President Hotel. Proof that ‘opposites attract’ and even endure, they were wholly steadfast in their love for each other …and are now reunited in heaven.
Anyone who knew Barbie would attest she never met a stranger and had a heart of gold. Her strong faith in the Lord guided her throughout her life and she availed herself to always being of service to others. Even in her last days, her concern for the wellbeing of others was testament her selfless, caring nature. She enjoyed crafting, Bunco, Mexican Dominoes, cooking and baking – and loved her friends and family dearly. She was also a member of the Red Hat Club, Wishful Thinkers, Gladstone Seniors, and Laureate Gama Upsilon of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She is preceded in death by her husband (Kenneth Brown), parents (Gladys and Robert Fisher), brother (Robert ‘Bob’ Fisher), sister and brother-in-law (Shirley and Peter Gerba), and nephew (Robert ‘Scott’ Fisher).
Barbie is survived by her nieces LeeAnn (Dustin) Melton and Christi Grissinger, great-nieces Lindsey and Emily Melton, great-great niece Mia Melton, ‘adopted’ sons Gary Creech-Tomasek and Nicholas Tomasek-Creech, as well as many cherished friends.
Visitation will be held at White Chapel Funeral Home and Cemetery 6600 NE Antioch Rd. Gladstone, MO 64119 on Saturday March 11th, 2023 from 1-2 pm.
Funeral service to commence at 2pm and due to forecasted inclement weather, will not include a graveside service. Reception at the funeral home to immediately follow.
