Born June 30, 1950 in Kansas City to William and Verna Economou, Basil lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, laughter, and love for his family and friends. He was known for his kind heart, generous spirit, trustworthiness, and wonderful sense of humor. Basil had a gift for making people feel welcome, and he formed lasting friendships wherever life took him.
Basil began a 15 year career in the 70s with General Motors in the Fairfax district, where he formed lifelong friendships. In the late 80s, he pursued studies in mainframe programming and built a successful career as a COBOL programmer. His intelligence, determination, and strong work ethic earned him the respect of colleagues and friends throughout the years.
Outside of work, Basil embraced life with enthusiasm. He was a devoted fan of rock music, attending several concerts over the years and building a large album collection. He loved science fiction and was an avid Trekkie. He also spent time playing billiards in leagues, and sharing his love of Greek food with family and friends. Some of his happiest moments were spent gathering with those he cared about, telling stories, sharing laughs, and creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Basil was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James, and his eldest son Dale. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Patricia (Gunn); his son Chad and daughter-in-law, Kelly; his daughter Melissa, and his grandson Shaun.
A celebration of life will be this Saturday, Jun 13th from 11am-1pm at Newcomer's White Chapel Funeral Home. Forever loved, forever remembered.
