Bette was the much loved daughter of Bob and Eunice Buchanan, and moved to Kansas City’s Northland in 1945, where she attended Norclay Elementary and North Kansas City High School, graduating in 1958. It was at Northtown that she and Bill Henderson met. They graduated in May and got married in November and remained sweethearts to the end. Bill passed away in 2019. Bette was a long-time real estate agent in the Northland, with many friends and acquaintances – many of whom she had known since her high school days.
Bette and Bill were among the first residents in the newly incorporated city of Gladstone. They raised their three children there and spent many happy years with their friends and neighbors. All three of their children also graduated from NKC High School so the Henderson household was full of sports and purple and gold!
Once their children were grown and the grandchildren started coming, no one was more excited to become GeeGee and Papa!
We know her parents and her husband welcome her to Heaven.
Missing her in this life are her sons and daughter, Doug Henderson (Tammy), Susan Henderson Saving (Scott) and Bob Henderson (Melanie Boer) – all of the KC metro area. Her grandchildren are surviving as well: Aimee Boer (Adam Blair), Brent Saving, Christopher Saving (Megan), Shayne Henderson, Shannan Henderson, and great grandchildren Lyla Saving, Eady Boer, and Charli Saving.
Our family wishes to thank NorthCare Hospice House and Dr. Maureen Dudgeon for the special care and tenderness they showed Mom on her journey.
Funeral services are set for Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church, 7600 NW Barry Road, KCMO 64153. Visitation begins at 11 am with services at 1 pm. Graveside services at 3 pm at Newcomer’s White Chapel Cemetery, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, MO 64119.
Community service was very important to Bette. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bette’s memory to Threads 2 Thrive c/o Boost KC (Formerly Assistance League) 6101 N Chestnut Gladstone, MO 64119, or the Alan Cloud Deacon’s Fund of Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church.
