Bill Dwayne Langston, Parkville, MO, passed away on October 1, 2026, after courageously battling glioblastoma for nearly a year and a half. A lifelong resident of the Kansas City area, Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Lee Cox.
Bill was a quiet, kind man-the strong, silent type-but those who knew him well knew his wonderful sense of humor. He loved to laugh, make jokes, and find humor in everyday life. His kindness, steady presence, and quiet strength were simply part of who he was.
Bill met his wife, Andrea, in 1998, beginning a life together that would span more than 28 years. They married in Maui in 2003, and Maui remained a special place throughout their marriage, returning each year to celebrate their anniversary.
Bill and Andrea truly enjoyed life together. They loved to travel, discover good food and wine, take camping trips, spend time at their lake house, and fish together. Some of their happiest memories were made outdoors, whether on an adventure far from home or simply enjoying the beauty around them. After Bill became ill, life became quieter, and some of their most treasured time together was spent during long, peaceful mornings on the deck with coffee, just enjoying each other's company.
Bill was a devoted father to his daughter, Chelsea Sviland, and her husband, Ken, and a loving grandfather to Haley, Taylor, and Kaleb. His grandchildren brought him tremendous joy. He loved playing with them, laughing with them, and just being their PeePaw.
A talented auto body mechanic until he retired in 2021, Bill had a gift for working with his hands. He especially enjoyed restoring muscle cars. He also loved playing golf and spending time outdoors. Fishing, bird hunting, camping, hiking, working in the yard, and bird watching were among the many ways he enjoyed nature.
Later in life, Bill developed a love for working out with his trainer Emma, who along with her family, became much more than friends- they became chosen family.
Bill also had a love for animals and shared his life with many special pets over the years. Among them were his cats, Minnie and Betty, who will miss his companionship very much.
In the final chapter of his life, Bill faced glioblastoma with tremendous courage. For nearly a year and a half, he endured the disease and its treatments with the same strength with which he lived his life. He ultimately passed away from complications of treatment.
Bill is survived by his wife, Andrea; his daughter and son-in-law, Chelsea and Ken Sviland; his grandchildren, Haley, Taylor, and Kaleb; his sister, Sherry Beamer; and many friends who loved him.
Bill will be remembered for his kindness and quiet strength, his sense of humor, his devotion to his family and friends, his love of animals and the outdoors, and the countless ordinary moments that became special simply because they were shared with him.
A celebration of Bill's life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Glioblastoma Support Network at glioblastomasupport.org or to St. Luke's Hospice House.
