

He was known for his early maturity, towering over others at nearly six feet tall by the age of 13 and treated like a man early on in his life. Everybody looked up to him for his natural leadership and liked him for his sense of humor. Brad formed many good friendships through Scouting and his experience in the electrical trade. He excelled in sports, notably as a pitcher in baseball and a defensive football tackle during his school years. He also learned how to play the piano and French horn at a very young age. He was an Eagle Scout, a tribesman in Mic-o-Say, Senior Steward in Alph Lodge #659, past President in the North Kansas City Rotary Club and member of the North Kansas City Breakfast Club, past Board member for the National Electrical Contractors Association, NECA and the Joint Apprenticeship Training Center, JATC. He graduated from Park Hill North High School in 1979 and started in the electrical trade that year.
He met the love of his life Debbie while working as an electrician at Townsend Communications and they married in 1984. Professionally, Brad thrived in the electrical trade and after completing his electrical training to become a Journeyman Wireman with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 124, he spent 6 years as a service truck technician and 15 years as an Estimator/General Manager to eventually become President of RL Yates Electrical Construction. He served as President for almost 12 years until CNS Vasculitis took him away from his ability to work.
He has been faithfully devoted and married to his wife for almost 40 years and has two boys, Richard and Christopher, aged 37 and 35, respectively. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, billiards, golfing and construction projects at the family business and especially on the farm to include a Primary residence with separate garage, barns, bridges, ponds, fencing, log saw and chicken house. Brad Yates leaves behind a legacy of hard work, integrity, and dedication to family and community. Brad was preceded in death by his father Richard (Dick) Yates and is survived by his wife Deborah (Debbie) Yates, son Richard Yates and children Nevaeh, Keaton, Sophia, Aurora and Tux the family pet, son Christopher Yates and Shaggy his massive dog, brother Troy Yates (Dominique), niece Alex (Yates) Gorman (William and Guinevere) and Nephew Perrin Yates (Serena). Brad is survived by his mother Paula Yates.
Visitation will be at D.W Newcomer and Sons Funeral Home White Chapel located in Gladstone Missouri on June 26, 2024 from 5pm to 7pm with services starting at 7pm. Donations may be made to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care or the Vasculitis Foundation.
