He was the devoted husband of Norma Mae Smith-Johnson, and the Lord called him home on their anniversary to be reunited.
He was born September 5, 1937, to Clyde W. Johnson and Helen F. Lindsay. A day which the world became a little brighter. Early in life, our father learned the importance of hard work and he instilled that sa
me work ethic in us. He was gentle, had the patience of a saint, and faced every challenge with admirable strength and courage. He was always there for us and taught us the importance of family, and doing what is right. Our father was a true role model who we will always look up to.
Carl lived a full and warm life, filled with love, joy, and happiness. He was a man of many talents and loved telling stories of the hogs he raised, and roads and bridges he worked on. Construction was a passion of his, and he was one of the best. Operating machinery for many years of his life, he truly left his mark on this Earth. Bowling was a great passion of his. One he had perfected over the years, winning the Missouri State Seniors Bowling Championship in 2001. At the age of 86 he continued to bowl 3 days a week carrying a 150 average. He was always willing to tell you where to place your feet and how to bring that elbow right by your ear! Carl will be fondly remembered, and deeply missed by all who knew him.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joan Johnson-Brooke; beloved sons, Donald Lee Johnson, and Danny Johnson who is survived by Sally Johnson; and former wives, Donna Matchett Johnson and Barbara Keeney Johnson.
He is survived by siblings; Johnny Johnson (Kaye), Irene Burton (Bob), Vern Johnson (Donna), Sharon Smith, Gary Johnson, Connie Trompeter, and Steve Johnson (Ela).
Children, Carlton Johnson (Patricia), Carla Leavitt, Chris Johnson, Tammy Hollon (Eric), Trent Johnson, and Marissa (Anthony) Castelletto; Stepchildren, Jerry Smith, Rusty Smith, Tory Fost (Laura), Jamie Caldwell (Penny), Dena Yardley, and Debbie Yardley.
