Carmen Arlene Nelson

She was born Nov 12,1932 in Muncie, Kansas. Preceding her in death were her parents, Perry J Barnes Sr and Bessie A Carter Barnes, brothers Perry Jr., James, and Bruce, sister Beverly Wagner, as well as 8 half-sisters and a half-brother.

She was an avid reader and loved doing puzzles until recent years when her eyesight failed her. Her kindness and sense of humor continued to grow until her final days.

She was a devoted member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. She enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Royals, Chiefs and Mizzou fan. She loved to cook and bake, and made the best cookies and cakes, as anyone who got to try them knows.

She attended Wyandotte High School and later obtained her associates degree from Maple Woods Community College.

When young, she worked as an artist for Intercollegiate Press. Later, she worked for Antioch Publications as a page designer/layout editor and also managed and was the buyer for the Small Mall in Antioch Center, a Christmas house set up in the mall for children to shop for Christmas presents for their parents. She also worked in other purchasing and retail positions throughout the years.

She was a loving mother that leaves behind 3 sons, Robert Nelson of Prairie Village, KS, Mike Nelson of Kansas City, MO, John (Jennifer) Nelson of Kansas City, MO, and daughter Anne (Joe) Stancic of Platte City, MO. as well as 5 grandchildren, Tyler McCall, Sarah (Louis) Guerrieri, Matti (Makayla) Nelson, Brett Nelson and Alex Nelson. In addition, she leaves ex-husband Ed Nelson, a half-brother, Phil Warson and a sister-in-law Lita Shanahan, wife of her late brother Bruce as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday June 6th at 10:30 am, followed by service at noon, at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 3800 NE Parvin Rd. Kansas City, MO. Cremation.
