Carolyn, 80, of Kansas City, MO (formerly of Laurie, MO) passed away on April 6, 2018 at North Kansas City Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born Mar 13, 1938 in Morgan County, MO to W. Robert and Eva Marie (Purvis) Hibdon. Prior to graduation Carolyn worked at her Grandparent's Resort Purvis Beach on the Lake of the Ozarks. A 1956 graduate of Versailles High School, she moved to Kansas City after graduation and started working at Kansas City Life Insurance Company. On November 18, 1960 she married Clifford M. Burks. They were members of Avondale UMC. Carolyn worked for Gas Service Company prior to having children. After her children reached school age, Carolyn went to work for NKC High School in the cafeteria until retirement. After her husband passed away in 1995, she enjoyed traveling with close friends. She was well known as an excellent cook and her love of flowers. She was of generous heart, always willing to help others in their time of need. Her family was important to her but the time she had with her grandchildren was the proudest memories she had.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Merle Burks; her parents; and her brother, Robert Jackson Hibdon.
Survivors include her son, Mike (Samantha) of Trimble, MO; her daughter, Sonja (Chris) Myer of Branson, MO; her sister, Sharon (Hibdon) Washburn of Rogers, AR; grandchildren, Cory (Mary) Burks and Jacob (Abbie) Burks of Kearney, MO and Montana, Gatlin, and Houston Myer all of Branson, MO; great grandchildren, Harlan and Henry Burks and Lane Stevenson.
Visitation will be 10 AM Saturday April 14, 2018 at White Chapel Funeral Home with services following at 11 AM. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
