Carolyn Kay (Steen) Cox, 80, Kansas City, MO, departed this world at her home on Thursday, March 11, 2021. She is now with her Lord and many loved ones in Heaven. Born February 26, 1941 at home in Queen City, MO to Warren ‘Dick’ and Doris Mildred (Pickens) Steen.
Kay spent the majority of her career as a loyal and hardworking employee of Cook Paint and Varnish Company in North Kansas City where she was fortunate enough to retire at the age of 50. A few years later she was able to live out her dream of moving to the lake with her “third time is a charm” husband Ray Cox, and precious dog Greta.
Kay was known as ‘Mom’ to many because of her unique ability to listen without judgment and give advice only when asked. She enjoyed cooking for All and her door was always open. There is not one of her many kids that do not remember the mouth-watering smell and delicious taste of Grammy’s best-ever biscuits (sinkers) and gravy.
Kay was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray Cox; sons Curtis Ray Santhuff; and Michael Zimmermann; granddaughters Aubrey (Santhuff) Ludden; and Amanda Webb; father, Dick; mother, Doris; and sisters Carla; and Penny.
Kay loved, and was most proud of her family. She is survived by son, Rocky Carl Santhuff (Sara); daughter, Scarlett Renee Barbosa (Rey); son Jeffrey Paul Webb (Haley); and stepsons, Danny Ray Cox, Terry Wayne Cox, Steven Allen Cox, Ronnie Dean Cox; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother Ronnie; and sister Sue.
Kay was a strong, determined, independent and very spiritual woman. Her wishes were to be cremated with a private Celebration of Life to share memories and listen to her favorite artist (son, Rocky) play the guitar. We will miss her every day, but Mom/Grammy/GiGi would not have us remember her with tears, but rather see her in the birds flying free in the sky.
