Chuck was born on January 24, 1950 in Atchison, Kansas to Helen and Marvin Engle.
He graduated from Oak Park High School in 1968. Chuck married Marie Belk in 1976. The couple met while working at Kmart and fell in love. Chuck lived in Kansas City his entire life, eventually settling into a career as a messenger for several law firms for over 30 years. His first child, Todd, was born in 1979, followed by Jared in 1982. Chuck loved his family, sports (playing softball into his mid-50’s), attending sporting events (more on this later); and taking his family on road trip summer vacations throughout the Midwest, stopping at every state sign (no matter how close to Kansas City) to get a family picture.
His favorite pastime, though, was supporting the Kansas City Chiefs. Chuck was a season ticket holder since 1968. He loved taking his sons to Chiefs games, spending quality time with them, and celebrating the end of every season by letting his sons pick a souvenir of their choice after the final home game. He also loved baseball, and helped his sons start their bobblehead collections.
He was Papa Chuck to his beloved grandchildren, Kate and Hudson. He loved watching Friday Night Smackdown with Kate and watching sports and reading to Hudson. His family remembers him as a kind, loving husband, father, and grandfather. He helped his sons move (and insisted on driving the truck) as their professional careers began. He also spent his weekends mowing the lawns of elderly Northland residents, many of whom became friends over the years. Chuck was always ready to lend a hand when family and friends needed help.
Chuck is preceded in death by his mother, Helen, and father, Marvin.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; sons Todd (Kyley) of Olathe, and Jared (Sarah), of Liberty; his grandchildren, Kate and Hudson; brother, Ken of Anchorage, Alaska; and sisters, Kathy and Susie of Kansas City.
