Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother.
Chip was born in Flint, Michigan to Norman Dumphy and Patricia (Bierd) Dumphy.
She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University where she met her husband of 58 years Ronald Manning Mars of Muskegon, Michigan. She went on to earn her master’s degree from Indiana University at South Bend.
She started and finished her career as a kindergarten teacher of 30+ years in the Michigan City Area School district. Her students were a huge part of her life and retirement did not come easily to her. She also worked with student teachers through Purdue North Central for a number of years and was highly respected amongst her peers.
She spent her summers on her beloved Bois Blanc Island in Northern Michigan from her childhood, and her children and grandchildren have also been blessed to enjoy that legacy with her over the years.
After she retired she worked at the LaPorte County Public Library. She was an active volunteer with the Coast Guard Chapel, the Bois Blanc Island Historical Society and supported many worthy causes. She was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa for many years. She was a proud Red Hatter.
She is preceded in death by her mother Patricia (Bierd) Dumphy, and father Norman Dumphy.
She is survived by her loving husband Ronald Mars, daughter Kryket Mars, son Kolly (Teri) Mars, and son KC (Mariceli Paz) Mars, grandchildren Quinn (Abby) Mars, Keyanna Mars, and Caden Mars, and her great-grandchild who is expected in December.
She will be laid to rest on Bois Blanc Island. A memorial service and celebration of life to be announced at a future date.
