It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved sister and friend, Christina Hsu. She was born on April 12, 1976 in Taiwan to Jer Han (Tony) Hsu and Jong Zong (Lisa) Hsu. She was preceded in death by her fiancée Craig Lemons.
Christina graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in 1995, and went on to receive her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Kansas in 2001. Her accomplished career began serving her country as a Lieutenant for the U.S. Public Health Service in Winslow, Arizona. She later found roots in Northern California, where she continued to provide care to patients at Dohmen Life Science Services and PharmBlue. Continuing her efforts to positively impact those around her, Christina started Hsu Home Care, which provided non-medical services to adults over the age of 18 with companion care and personal care assistance.
Christina will always be remembered as her alter ego, Snoopy. Her love, kindness, and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a loyal friend, loved her brother’s family and adored her nieces. She was committed to caring for her parents once she moved back to Kansas City
She travelled to all of the major Hawaiian islands, China, many of the countries of Europe, Peru, India, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, China, and most of the United States. Her favorite vacations were to Japan, where she enjoyed soba, okonomiyaki, and sushi. Although she preferred her sushi cooked or seared. Her favorite stop was the Fox Temple in Kyoto to buy a fortune and to enjoy the beauty of the temple.
Despite being a horrible cook, she loved competition cooking shows and fine dining, eating at many Michelin Star and highly rated restaurants around the world. She experienced a Kaiseki dinner in Japan; a fine meal in Victoria & Albert’s in Orlando; and chicken and rice in Singapore. Her favorite was Picasso in Las Vegas, having spent her 40th birthday there with many friends.
Christina was great at remembering people she met and connecting with them in a way that they forever became loyal friends. Despite her friends and coworkers living all over the world, she always maintained her bonds with them.
In 2023, Christina became engaged to Craig Lemons, the love of her life. Their relationship was filled with laughter, love, Kansas City Chiefs Football, and plans for a beautiful future together. Tragically, both Christina and Craig passed away before they could fulfill their dreams of marriage. Although her time with Craig was short, she continued to always keep him with her by carrying his photo on her travels and to events. Christina’s spirit has now joined with Craig’s in The Universe.
Christina is survived by her parents, Jer Han (Tony) and Jong Zong (Lisa); her brother Johnny and his wife Mary and their two children, her nieces, Gwendolyn and Isabelle Hsu; and many many beloved friends, all of whom will miss her.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on January 10, 2024 at 1:00pm Central at Newcomer's White Chapel Funeral Home & White Chapel Cemetery (6600 NE Antioch RD, Gladstone, MO, 64119).
In lieu of flowers, the Hsu family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the college funds of Christina's nieces, Gwen and Isabelle. See below for more details.
