

Cindy Lynn Garrison-Salyer (VonElling), born July 3, 1959 passed away on Saturday May 16, 2026, at home. She was preceded in death by her first husband Gary Garrison (1983) and her parents: Roger and Virginia VonElling and sister Sandra VonElling. Cindy married Greg Salyer on December 31, 1987. She is survived by her husband Greg Salyer and their children: Sarah Jackson (Blake), Brent Garrison (Nicole), Jeff Salyer (Melody) and Stacy Curry along with 12 Grandchildren: Maddie Cutsinger (Jordan), Garrin McCumber, Lily Adam (Trevor), Charlotte Garrison, Scarlett Garrison, Brooks Garrison, Elizabeth Salyer, Jack Salyer, Levi Salyer, Taylor Curry, Brianna Curry, Asher Curry and 1 Great-Granddaughter: Oaklyn Curry (Taylor).
Cindy worked numerous jobs throughout her lifetime. As a teen, she worked at Don Chilitos Mexican Restaurant. Cindy then worked for the US Postal Service as a mail processor, and later as a customer service representative manning the telephone lines for a postal service contractor. Cindy also worked as an order taker on the phones at Med4home, at Wendy’s Restaurant tending the salad bar and as loan processor.
Cindy was very active in her children’s activities, including dance mom and as a scorekeeper for her son Brent’s baseball teams through all the hot summers, regardless of the heat. She later spent much of her time attending her grandchildren’s events such as dance, baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, orchestra and choir. Her love and involvement with family also carried over to Sandra’s children and grandchildren: Kersten, LeeAnne, Angelina, Phillip and Avery.
Cindy and Greg always opened their home to their family with Sandra and her girls living with them at several points. After the death of Greg’s father (Gordon), they opened their home to his mother Sue who split time between their home and his brother’s in Arizona until her death in 2014. After the death of Cindy’s father, Roger, her mother Virginia also moved in with her and Greg until her death in 2022.
Cindy enjoyed music and attended many rock concerts throughout her life. She loved her porch and hanging out by their pool with family. She loved to travel with Greg and especially loved the beach. Her trademark was her love of Flamingos and was known on TikTok as Grandma Flamingo.
A visitation will be held 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Thursday May 21, at DW Newcomer’s White Chapel Funeral Home in Gladstone with a Celebration of Life at the family home afterwards.
