

Colleen C. Chapman, 71, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on May 20, 2025. Born on March 28, 1954, in Davenport, Iowa, Colleen lived a life marked by deep faith, unwavering dedication to service, and a profound commitment to her family and community.
Colleen earned an Associate’s Degree from Maple Woods Community College and went on to devote much of her life to causes close to her heart. A devout Catholic, she was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish where she joyfully lent her voice as a cantor. Her faith was not only a personal compass but also a guiding light in her extensive volunteer work.
A passionate advocate for youth development and inclusion, Colleen dedicated decades of service to the Boy Scouts of America. Colleen received the Bronze Pelican and St. George Awards for service on the Catholic Committee through the Boy Scouts. She served as a Religious Emblem Instructor and held the role of District Chair for Scouts with disabilities—demonstrating her steadfast belief in opportunity and support for all young people. Her leadership extended further as she became a SACHEM in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and served on the Board of Directors for Troop 180’s Scholarship Fund. She was also a valued member of the National Commission Service Team.
Colleen’s commitment to Scouting spanned over 15 years at the Philmont Training Center, where she contributed to countless training sessions and leadership programs. She also took the Wood Badge Training and served with distinction on the H. Roe Bartle Commissioner Staff for 12 years. Colleen received the Silver Beaver Award for her dedicated service to scouting. Her legacy within Scouting is one of mentorship, inclusion, and enduring impact.
Family was central to Colleen’s life. She is survived by her loving husband Terry Chapman; sons Sean Scanlan, Pat Scanlan (Angela), and Eric Scanlan (Cindy); siblings Tim Callery (Mary), Christine Ryan (Mike), and Theresa Cypher (Jeff). She was a proud grandmother to fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Colleen was preceded in death by her daughter Bridget Scanlan and her brother Kevin Callery.
Her life was one of purpose—rooted in faith, enriched by service, and sustained by love for family and community. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire all whose lives she touched. A Funeral Mass will be held on May 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Parish 900 NE Shady Ln Dr, Kansas City, MO, 64118.
