She was surrounded by her loving family. Born in North Kansas City on January 17th 1975, she was the daughter of Skeeter and Tanya Thompson. Courtnay was raised in Liberty and graduated from Liberty High School in 1993. After high school she played volleyball for Missouri Western State University.
Courtnay then took her first adventure away from Missouri and began a life in Colorado where she continued her education. Her adventurer spirit then urged her to give Europe a try so she then moved to Germany to explore a romantic languages degree at The University of Regensburg. After that she moved to New York where she lovingly waited on and served people as she became a bartender.
After 10 years of living in New York, and the birth of her first nephew, she returned to Liberty to be closer to family. She continued sharpening her bartending skills and built many friendships at the Brass Rail. In 2018 she decided to try something new and started her career at Hallmark. Her hard work and mutual respect for her coworkers quickly got her promoted into management. She adored her Hallmark family and was determined to get back there.
Courtnay’s life was cut short by the discovery of brain cancer in January, 2023. Her strength of will and fierce desire to fight, got her through multiple surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation. We are forever grateful to her extensive care team who were with her on this journey.
Courtnay was the daughter of Tanya and Skeeter Thompson of Liberty, and cherished sister to Ashley Jones and her husband, Max Jones. She leaves behind her favorite nephews Maddox and Leo Jones. Courtnay is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. She also leaves behind her beloved Golden Retriever, Billie T. Rex.
Courtnay’s family wishes to acknowledge Courtnay’s many close friends and coworkers, whether local, or across the country, whose outpouring of love, support, help and prayers over the last year is appreciated beyond measure.
