David grew up in the Kansas City area and graduated from North Kansas City High School where he was a state-recognized wrestler and an Eagle Scout. After high school, he attended Rockhurst University where he earned his undergraduate degree. He continued his education by pursuing graduate coursework at Ohio State University, the University of Georgia, and the Marshall-Wythe School of Law in Madrid Spain.
David spent most of his adult life working as a commercial banking professional in Florida. In 2015, he moved back to Kansas City to be closer to family and worked in various positions at the U.S. Postal Service and other national organizations.
He enjoyed tending the yard, fishing, smoking meats, games at the dining room table, betting for or against the Jayhawks with his mother and instigating “discussions” whenever possible.
David leaves behind his mother, Carmelita Mitchell, four siblings: Ed Mitchell, Richard (Pam) Mitchell, Gary (Shelly) Mitchell, and Sheri Espinosa. He also leaves behind ten nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Mitchell who has been waiting for a game of dominoes.
Visitation for David will be held on August 2, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., with a service beginning at 11 a.m. at White Chapel Funeral Home.
