Donnie Jean Myers

Donnie Jean (Eaton) Myers passed away peacefully on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 6:30 PM at Sunrise Senior Living in Leawood KS, where she had been a resident for the last 2 ½ years. She was born January 24, 1934 on her grandparents' farm in rural Warsaw, MO. She is the daughter of Russell C. and Alice (Davidson) Eaton, who preceded her in death. Her early years were spent in Warsaw, MO until she was six years old when the family moved to Kansas City MO and she started school at Horace Mann Elementary. She always returned to Warsaw MO to spend her summers on the farm which she loved. At age 12, the family settled in North Kansas City. Donnie attended North Kansas City High School from age 12-18. She made many life-long friends there and graduated from high school in 1952. Donnie attended William Jewell College in Liberty MO from 1952-1956 where she met the love of her life, John Francis Myers or “Fran”. She graduated from WJC in 1956 with an elementary education degree and married Fran in June, 1958. Donnie taught school for over 30 years, 25 of which were at Franklin Elementary in Liberty MO teaching fifth grade. Any student who had Mrs. Myers adored her. She received her master’s degree in Reading from UMKC. She and Fran were a part of the Liberty community for over fifty years where they raised their two children. Donnie was active in her children’s lives and activities and always supported their interests as well as her grandchildren’s. Donnie did not know a stranger and had an infectious laugh and great sense of humor. She was an avid knitter, gardener and seamstress. She had a zest for life and positive attitude which served her well in her later years. After Fran preceded her in death suddenly in Feb 2002, she focused on her family, grandchildren, hobbies and friends. She was a faithful member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and loved her Sunday school class and friends at church. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Alice (Myers) Jones (Bryce) of Leawood KS; her son John A Myers (Debra) of Liberty, MO; seven grandchildren – Andrew (Monica)Myers, Haley Myers, Cori Glaser, Cheyenne Glaser, Gunter Jones, Paige Jones and Isabella Jones; a sister Melva (Eaton) Wilson (Ray) of Gainesville, GA; a brother, Russell Alan Eaton (Joni) of Georgetown CA ; a sister-in-law Arlene (Myers)Wahl (Melvin) of Clifton Springs, NY and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, March 1 at White Chapel Funeral Home in Gladstone MO. Visitation will be at 1 pm. Memorial Contributions may be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation and Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. We would also like to thank the staff and volunteers at Sunrise Senior Living in Leawood KS and KC Hospice for their wonderful care of Donnie during her stay.
