Ed was born on October 2, 1946 in Kansas City, Kansas to Edward and Vera Vandenberg. He graduated from Washington High School in 1964. Ed married Charlotte “Kay” Peters in 1966, his forever dance partner. He was then drafted to United States Army and served time in Vietnam. In May of 1968, Ed was wounded in action and honorably discharged as a Purple Heart recipient. Back home in Kansas City, he began his financial career working for Commerce Bank, which lead him to move his wife and first son Michael to St. Louis. A few years later, Boatman’s Bank brought Ed back home, and his second son Scott was born. His children remember him as a people person who made friends everywhere he went. Ed was a great storyteller and truly loved sharing his memories with others. He enjoyed cooking, taco night being a family favorite.
He is preceded in death by his wife Kay, brother Richard, parents Edward and Vera, parents in law Frank and Nelda, as well as two brothers in law Jim and Gary.
Ed is survived by his sons Michael (Kim) Vandenberg and Scott Vandenberg; grandchildren Rachel (Russell) Pearson, Renee Vandenberg, Wesley Henry, Maddilyn Vandenberg, Scott Vandenberg, Jr. and Hannah Vandenberg; Kay’s family and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
