E’Lane was born in rural Seminole County, Oklahoma in December 1936, to John and Jewell Copenhaver. She grew up in Brownsville and Corpus Christie, Texas. E’Lane took pride in her education and career. After graduating from Texas Women’s University in 1959, she moved to Topeka and became a Registered Occupational Therapist.
While working at the Minninger Clinic in Topeka, E’Lane met Ferrel Wingerson and they married in 1961. Ferrel took a job with the Upjohn Company and they moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan, where their son Scott was born in 1964. In 1965, they moved to Southern California and E’Lane began a long career at the University of California Medical Center. E’Lane eventually became head of occupational therapy for the hospital and specialized in treating burn patients.
After Ferrel’s death in 1982, E’Lane worked as a therapist in private practice and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. E’Lane then moved to Kansas City to be close to Scott, daughter in law Michelle and grandchildren David, Mathew and Rachel. E’Lane thoroughly enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren’s events like birthdays, graduations and sporting events.
