

Dr. Ernesto Fandino, 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Kansas City, Missouri on May 2, 2023. He was born in 1942 in Tocaima, Colombia to Silvestre Fandiño and Maria Teodosa de Fandiño. He graduated as valedictorian from Gimnasio German Peña in 1960 in Bogota, Colombia. In 1968 he received his medical degree from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. He went on to complete his residency in pediatrics at Georgetown University in Washington D.C and his internship at Providence Hospital in Washington D.C.
Ernesto married Ana Bessy Diaz de Fandino in 1980 in Alexandria, Virginia and they later moved to Burke, Virginia where they lived for 35 years.
Ernesto practiced medicine in Sterling, Virginia at Countryside Pediatrics. In 1997, he was awarded the Vicennial Medal after twenty years of service as Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Ernesto retired from private practice in 2015.
Ernesto loved traveling with his wife and two daughters. They would frequently visit his hometown of Tocaima and travel to other parts of the world. He and his daughters shared fond memories of trips to Colombia, Honduras, the Caribbean, Virginia Beach, Wintergreen Virginia, and more. His daughters remember him as an avid reader and attentive father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. He loved his work as a pediatrician, but always made time to attend his daughters’ academic and extracurricular activities. Ernesto and Ana Bessy loved to socialize and hosted frequent dinner parties for friends and family at their home in Burke, Virginia. In 2015 they relocated to Kansas City, Missouri to be near his beloved family. He adored his grandchildren and will be sorely missed.
Ernesto is survived by his wife, Ana Bessy Fandino, their daughter, Ana Milena Fandino-Lyman and her husband Trent Lyman, granddaughter Nadine Lyman of Kansas City, Missouri, and his daughter Nicole Alderson and her husband Chris Alderson and grandchildren Noah Boswell, Colsen and Cade Alderson of Cedar Park, Texas.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. with a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church located at 919 Northeast 96th St, Kansas City, Missouri 64155. Burial immediately following at Resurrection Cemetery at 5001 Northeast Cookingham Dr, Kansas City, Missouri 64156. Reception following the burial at Newcomer’s White Chapel Funeral Home at 6600 Northeast Antioch Rd, Gladstone, Missouri 64119.
