Floyd married Elaine, the love of his life, on September 8, 1943 after being called to serve in WW2. He was a member of the US Army Air Forces 805th Aviation Engineer Battalion serving in Hawaii, Saipan and Ie Shima from 1943-1945. His heavy machinery skills landed him jobs in construction and long-haul trucking, where he logged over four million miles across the country.
His off-hours were spent creating Roosterville Airport in Liberty. He built hangars, poured the runway and created a business around his hobby, flying a Cessna 152. He sold the airport in 1978 and moved to Kearney, MO, in order to travel extensively with Elaine across North America. Many warm winters were later spent with friends in San Benito, TX.
As a 50+ year Freemason, he was active in the Ararat Shrine Mini Model T club and helped with their charitable events like the annual Circus and holiday Christmas Tree sales.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; parents; three sisters, (Mary, Francis and Helena) and brother, John. He is survived by his daughter, Floy and son-in-law, Dick; grandsons, Richard and his wife Ravy, Tom and his wife Stephanie, and ten great grandchildren.
A lifelong tinkerer, hard worker and great storyteller, he was a friend and teacher for many. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
In keeping with his wishes, we are encouraging donations to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children in lieu of flowers.
