Frances "Fran" Furlong, 87, died peacefully on May 22, 2026. Fran was born in McAllen, Texas to Lloyd and Mina Anderson. She graduated from Wichita High School East in 1956. She also graduated from Graceland University School of Nursing in 1984.
Fran married James Furlong, her high school sweetheart in 1957. Jim and Fran moved to Kansas City in 1958. In 1984, Fran began working for North Kansas City Hospital as a nurse, until 1997 when she retired.
Her family remembers her as a caring, sharing person, always willing to help her family, friends and community. Fran was accomplished at quilting and painting in watercolors and acrylics.
She was a dedicated volunteer for AFS-USA for 42 years. Her family hosted ten high school foreign exchange students over the years and then continued in a leadership role at local and national levels.
Fran is survived by her husband Jim (Gladstone, Missouri); three children, Doug Furlong (San Diego, California), Carol Furlong (Gladstone, Missouri) and Brad Furlong (Cindy) (Kansas City, Missouri); and one sister, Marilyn Meals (Mark) (Fairgrove, Missouri).
